Hello, I’m Tim, and I recently completed an epic motorcycle journey across America. Starting in Orlando, Florida, I traveled to Los Angeles, California, then on to Washington D.C., and finally back to Orlando, covering a total of 6,700 miles.
My journey began with a mantra from my brother Pat: “Ain’t nothing to it but to do it.” With these words in mind, I set off with my nephew Chip, taking back roads through Georgia and Alabama, and camping along the way. I quickly learned that Chip enjoys pushing his fuel gauge to the limit, adding some excitement to our rides through Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
In Oklahoma, we encountered roads that were supposed to be paved but were actually gravel and dirt. Texas challenged us with intense winds of 40 to 50 miles per hour, with gusts nearly reaching 60. Fortunately, we avoided a storm with golf ball-sized hail that had just passed through Amarillo.
Continuing through Texas, we entered New Mexico’s vast landscapes, where gas stations were scarce. In Colorado, winds toppled four tractor-trailers, but seeing a group of adventure bikes handle the conditions gave me confidence. I relaxed, rolled back the throttle, and enjoyed Colorado’s stunning scenery.
We reached my sister’s house in the afternoon, where we parked our bikes and took a break to fly home for Mother’s Day. This adventure taught me perseverance and the thrill of exploring new places. Despite the challenges, the freedom and breathtaking landscapes made every mile worthwhile.
